Today, we have breaking news for “Twilight” fans that is best classified as good, bad and possibly a bit weird. And all of it comes courtesy of fast-rising, in-demand young star Ashley Greene.
The good news: Ashley is joining Kellan Lutz in the lacrosse drama we broke the news on last month. “It’s called ‘Warrior,’ ” Greene beamed when we caught up with her at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Salutes Young Hollywood event.
“It’s been amazing,” the 21-year-old, who plays Alice Cullen in the vampire series, said of her life since the massive “Twilight” opening. “It’s been super busy. I just finished another film, and I started working on one today — with Kellan of all people!”
The bad news is that the reunion of the “Twilight” stars rose from the ashes of another project, an indie film called “Strife,” which both actors have now left. “We were in talks for doing ‘Strife,’ but that happened way before ‘Twilight,’ and it just never came through,” Greene explained. “But there’s something cool where me and Kellan get the opportunity to work together a lot. I love him to death.”
And now, we get to the weird news: The actors best known as playing “brother and sister” Alice and Emmett are playing lovers.
“I’m playing Brooke,” Ashley said of the plot. “Connor, who Kellan plays — [I'm] his love interest in the movie.”
We know, we know — the Cullens aren’t really related to each other, and only pose as a family to hide their dark vampire secrets. But if you’re the type of Stephenie Meyer fan who fantasizes about Alice and Emmett getting down and dirty … well, your dreams are about to come true.
“I’m the coach’s daughter,” Greene elaborated on the film. “[Kellan] plays lacrosse, and basically the story is that his dad is a Marine, so they move around and they end up moving him back to his dad’s hometown where he played lacrosse.”
Greene and Lutz are longtime friends — all the more reason why the actress is so happy to be working opposite the 23-year-old hunk on his first starring role. “['Warrior'] is about Kellan’s journey,” she beamed. “It’s very much Kellan’s movie, which is really exciting for him. It’s his journey that he goes through, with trials and errors, and his temper and stuff like that. And I join forces with him, and my dad doesn’t like that very much, so we deal with that.”
Filming will continue on the flick into early 2009, just before the stars reunite again for “New Moon.” As for “Warrior,” you can expect to see Kellan and Ashley falling in love in late 2009/ early 2010. “It’s going to be cute,” Greene promised.
